Fot the last number of months I have been reading A Christian on the Mount A treatise concerning Meditation
by Thomas Watson 1620-1686. Watson writes so highlyof meditating calling it a holy duty. i have read it over and over however i just feel like a duck out of water. my attempts at meditation have been futile at best.
I dont recall ever listening to a sermon on meditating on God word . are there perhaps others whom have read this book who could help me or are versed on Christian Meditation ?

tomatoetom Sorry, I am late to what you said here.

For the most part, reading the Puritans such as Thomas Watson, John Owen and others is a very worthwhile endeavour.
I have not read Watson on this subject. However, my mind goes to one of my favourite Psalms. Read through Psalm 1, especially verse two and think about the context of how the Psalmist is using the word "meditate".

Quote
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.

2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

3 And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

4 The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.

5 Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.

6 For the Lord knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.
