I was recently told the following and I wanted to find out if it is correct.

Quote
The TR was not discovered. It was a manuscript that was compiled by Erasmus, a Catholic priest. Based on a few manuscripts that he had access to in the late 16th century. He did not even have a manuscript of Revelation. He pulled it from a commentary and the Latin. In fact, he relied heavily on the Latin throughout much of the work in the TR. The TR was later revised by Beza, and Stephanus. What is called the TR today was when Scrivenor, I believe, believe, it may have been someone else, but it was compiled from the readings used for the KJV. So, basically it is the KJV translated back into Greek. The Reformers did not choose the TR over other the critical text. That is a mindless claim. Unless you are claiming the Reformers used the Delorian to come to the future to examine the manuscripts that have since been discovered.

This part, I am confident, is quite false. If you are interested, you will find the answer in James White's "The King James Only Controversy", which I read many years ago, and quite enjoyed. In fact, I have bought that book twice, and still don't have it. [Christians make good book-keepers! bigglasses ]

There is no such thing as preaching Christ and Him crucified, unless we preach what nowadays is called Calvinism. It is a nickname to call it Calvinism; Calvinism is the gospel, and nothing else. - C.H. Spurgeon
